Angel Guardian Dedication|
On July 17, Reverend William F. Murphy, D.D. S.T.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre blessed the newly opened Angel Guardian Home. Over one hundred people including many dignitaries attended. Angel Guardian Home is the 32nd group home overseen by Maryhaven's residential services that is certified and funded through the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
As the adult residential population ages, their need for increased medical support necessitates a move to a skilled nursing facility. Likewise, throughout the state a large population of developmentally disabled individuals who reside in nursing homes would otherwise be able to reside in an OPWDD setting with the appropriate clinical support such as provided by Angel Guardian. Maryhaven's administration worked with the local office of OPWDD to screen applicants in nursing homes from Island Park to the Hamptons. Twelve men and women with developmental disabilities in need of 24-hour nursing care were offered placement and two individuals residing in existing Maryhaven homes who were in need of a more supportive setting now have placement in this beautiful facility.
