Services: Adult Day Programs

Maryhaven operates several programs for adults over the age of 18, including a three-stage residential program, vocational rehabilitation, job placement, supported employment, out patient mental health services, psychosocial services, day habilitation, and weekend recreation respite..

The Vocational/Placement Programs—provide Vocational Evaluations, Vocational Counseling and Training, to assist adults in learning the skills necessary to participate as productive members of society. Through training in social/communication skills and work habits, the goal of the program is for each participant to obtain employment within an array of community based options, or in Maryhaven’s Work Center.  Maryhaven Work Centers currently provide opportunities in Electronics, Document Imaging, Microfilming, Packaging/Assembly, Shredding and Commercial Printing.

Maryhaven consumers are sometimes able to function independently in the outside labor force. If additional help is required at the outset of a new job, a Maryhaven Job Coach who provides step-by-step training accompanies the consumer and provides support until a job is mastered.

The vocational programs assist over 300 individuals to meet the challenges of their disability by giving them an opportunity to advance their skills and develop confidence in their individual abilities.

The Day Habilitation Programs (Port Jefferson Station, Yaphank and Riverhead)—assists consumers in designing plans for services and obtaining satisfaction based on the individual’s vision of a desirable future.  Consumers have an opportunity to explore community resources and participate in activities of interest to them.  A unique Day Habilitation concept incorporates performing arts skills into the program, and was originally created because of consumers’ interest in drama music and dance.  Program participants learn all aspects of stage production including acting/performance, dance, music, art and set design.   All members of the program participate in the Center’s performance schedule.

Service Coordination (Suffolk County)—a person-centered approach towards empowering and enabling consumers to be independent in their daily activities.  Advocacy, service linkage and service coordination are primary functions provided to individuals and their families.

Weekend Recreational Respite (Yaphank)— Located at Maryhaven’s Yaphank, NY facility, the program operates on Saturdays from 10AM-2PM.  Families and/or other caregivers living with and caring for individuals with a disability face a multitude of challenges. The program affords opportunities of therapeutic recreation experiences and, secondly provides respite for the caregiver’s family.
