Residential Options
Our adult residential program offers a variety of quality living arrangements, from garden apartments to houses located in communities across Suffolk County. Residential options offer developmentally disabled adults an opportunity to live in the community and enjoy its resources. Our tiered structure of residential settings offer varying levels of supports designed to assist each person in meeting their life goals in conjunction with their specific care needs:
Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) assist both ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals and operate with 24-hour supervision. Through a clinical team approach, residents receive assistance with basic self-care and independent living skills.
Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA) are homes, which often have a smaller number of residents. Trained staff supervises the daily activities of the home and provides a structured, therapeutic setting for the residents to develop their skills and reach their personal goals.
IRA Apartments are for individuals who are semi-independent in meeting their own basic day-to-day needs without 24-hour supervision. Staff provides training and guidance several times a week focusing on activities such as menu planning, cooking and budgeting.
Our homes receive on-site inspections and are certified by New York State. Maryhaven has earned a reputation among the State's audit teams for running a high-quality residential program. Our staff receives comprehensive training and works hard to develop a sense of trust, security and contentment in each home. We specifically select staff who are capable of both working with our residents on skills development, and who are also able to create and enhance a caring, happy, family atmosphere. Staffing patterns vary according to the needs of the residents. On-site staff includes a residence manager, assistant manager and counselors. The Division's management staff includes experienced director and program supervisors. All staff are responsible, accountable and have their performance monitored.
Maryhaven has its own Support Services Division which is responsible for maintaining each home and the surrounding grounds, and for making repairs as needed. All work is professionally done and all Agency-owned property is maintained at a high standard.
Other Services
Through the Home Touch program, Maryhaven provides professional services such as home skills training and community-based recreational activities for those who choose to remain in their family home.
Individual Support Services (ISS) is a grant program which offers financial assistance, service coordination and residential habilitation services to individuals, thus enabling them to live independently in the community, while enjoying essential staff supports.
Clinical Services
An in-depth clinical assessment determines the goals for each resident's Individual Service Plan. The assessment results are used to determine each person's need to access services such as speech therapy, applied behavioral services, psychological assessments and counseling. On-staff nursing professionals assist the residents with their treatments, and our psychological staff provides guidance and instruction. We also utilize the resources of the local community to access additional medical supports such as doctors, dentists and therapists.
Admission
The process for admission and placement into one of Maryhaven's Community Residential Services programs begins with a phone call and the completion of an application. When a placement becomes available, a professional assessment of an individual's current abilities and an interview with the participant and their advocate regarding future goals and preferences, is conducted. Division staff use this information to determine the program placement best suited to meet an individual’s needs and long-term goals. Final selection is based upon an interview and includes a visit to the site. The programs offered through this Division currently serves residents from communities in Nassau and Suffolk counties who are over 18 years of age.
